With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Giuseppe, 68, of Altavilla Milicia. He passed away on 8/14/24, surrounded by his family. He emigrated from Sicily when he was thirteen in 1969, bringing a deep commitment of hard work to make it in America and a profound love for his family.
Joseph was known for his tireless work ethic. This could be felt through his hands-on approach to all aspects of life. His passion for working with his hands was evident in everything he did, from his profession to the countless projects he undertook for those he loved. No matter how hard the task was, the first thing out of Joe's mouth was always, “Oh yeah, I can do that; it’s easy.” If there was a tool you needed, he had it. If there was a part you needed, he could get it. If it was just a helping hand, he was happy to pick up the phone and rush over to be by your side. He was always there to help, as we hope every neighbor, friend, and father should be.
His connection to his Sicilian roots and his love for nurturing extended beyond his family. He spent hours in his garden with great care and pride, growing an abundance of produce he generously shared with neighbors, family, and friends. His garden was not just a source of food but also a symbol of his generosity.
Joe had a deep passion for food, often bringing his Sicilian roots and garden into the kitchen. He delighted in preparing meals for his family, and his cooking was more than just nourishment—it expressed his love. The aromas of his kitchen, his makeshift outdoor pizza oven, and the joy of his family gathered around the table will be cherished memories for all who knew him.
Family was the cornerstone of Joe's life. He was a loyal husband married to Czesia for 45 years. His commitment to her was shown as they faced good and bad times together. He was a devoted father to his children, Sara, Nicole, and Anthony, and his son-in-law, Nicholas (Sara). He was an adoring grandfather to his eight grandchildren, Addison, Isabella, Aubrie, Alyvia, Grayson, Savanna, Theodore, and Lincoln. He was known for his selflessness, often putting the needs of his wife, children, and grandchildren before his own. Whether offering a helping hand, picking up the phone, driving you to the airport, providing advice, being at a sporting event or practice, showing you how to fix something, picking a child up, making food, or simply being present, Joe was always there for his loved ones, ensuring their needs were met before his own.
His dedication to his work was matched only by his devotion to his family. Joe is remembered for his strong work ethic and craftsmanship. He loved his job and all his colleagues, who had become family over the years. He always had a smile on his face when work friends came to visit.
His three children survive him, his eight grandchildren, and numerous other family members and friends who will cherish his memory. Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Rosaria Faso Scafidi, and his father, Antonino Scafidi.
A viewing and gathering will be held on Saturday, August 17th, at 9:30 am at St. Catherine of Siena Church at 845 W Main St, West Dundee, IL 60118, with a mass starting at 10:30 am—luncheon to follow at Bleuroot at 98 W Main St #2015, West Dundee, IL 60118.
Joe will be remembered for his hardworking nature, boundless love for his family, and passion for cooking and gardening, which brought joy to those around him. His legacy of love, generosity, and culinary delight will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
