Leokadia Miklewicz

January 6, 1928 — February 20, 2026

Leokadia Miklewicz, born on January 6, 1928, near Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, Poland, departed this world peacefully in Chicago, Illinois, on February 20, 2026. Her journey was one filled with resilience, devotion, and profound love.

Leokadia was the cherished daughter of Zofia and Marcelo Niedbala, and the middle sibling in a tight-knit family that included her brother Jan and sister Daniela. The specter of World War II loomed large in her formative years, leading to an unanticipated end to her education after the fifth grade. The war wrenched her family apart, forcing her father into labor on a farm in Germany, while they endured a challenging existence back home in a country ravaged by conflict.

In the tumultuous years that followed the war, the seeds of new beginnings were sown when she met her future husband, Jozef Miklewicz. Together, they fashioned a life characterized by hard work, unwavering faith, and an unbreakable bond over family. With Jozef working diligently as a blacksmith and Leokadia embracing her role as a devoted homemaker, their modest home blossomed into a nurturing sanctuary where their four children—Jadwiga, Jan, Ewa, and Robert—were raised in an atmosphere brimming with love.

As a mother, Leokadia’s tireless spirit never faltered. Their two-room home may have been humble, but it was alive with warmth and laughter. Each of her children, as they grew and began families of their own, carried with them the values of love and resilience that she instilled in them, which never wavered through the changing seasons of life.

After the heart-wrenching loss of her beloved husband Jozef in 1993, Leokadia honored the Polish tradition of mourning for a year. In an unexpected twist of fate, a journey to Chicago in 1995 to help her daughter brought her a new chapter that would last for 31 beautiful years. During this time, she embraced the joys of grandmotherhood, helping Ewa nurture her two children and later relishing her role as a great-grandmother to four blessed great-grandchildren.

Leokadia’s gentle touch, radiant smile, quick wit, and passion for sharing delightful rhymes will forever echo in the hearts of those who loved her. She leaves behind a legacy imbued with love—her cherished children, Jadwiga (Boguslaw) Dydo, Jan (Anna) Miklewicz, Ewa Miklewicz, and the late Robert Krzysztof (Monika) Miklewicz; her adoring grandchildren, Robert (Ewa) Dydo, Magdalena (Tomasz) Wisniewska, Daria (Marcin) Soltysiak, Konrad Miklewicz, Gerard (Lisa) Krzak, and Joanna (Shane) Castello; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Klaudiusz Mazur, Krystian Dydo, Jakub Dydo, Aleksander Wisniewski, Maja Wisniewska, Julia Soltysiak, Wiktoria Soltysiak, Magdalena Miklewicz, Noah Krzak, Dominic Castello, Elliana Castello, and Vincent Castello.

Leokadia Miklewicz's life was a testament to resilience, a journey woven with love, and the indelible connections she nurtured with her family. Her memory will remain a guiding light, forever cherished by those she leaves behind.
